Re: Ravel
I've always heard the "Bolero" composer's name pronounced ra-VEL rather than the emphasis being placed on the first syllable. Just saying.

Re: Ephebic
I was wondering about Meaning #1. Does this mean that in ancient Greece you were not considered a Greek citizen until you completed military training or you could not be considered a citizen of Athens until you completed military training? Just wondering.

Re: Troll
When I saw the Goodwords "troll", the first thing I thought was of Bert, Tom and William (the trolls in J.R.R. Tolkien's "The Hobbit"). I believe they lived in a cave, not under a bridge. Maybe only cockney-speaking trolls live in caves.

Re: Presbyopic
Medically speaking, I'm myopic and have been all my life. I can't remember a time I didn't have to wear glasses to see things far away. I've considered Lasik surgery but every time I've checked into it I've been told it affects your night vision. I'm reluctant to have the procedure done.

Re: Graffito
I think "officially sanctioned graffiti" on a wall would probably be called a "mural". Our fair city here in L.A. (Lower Alabama) has several of these officially sanctioned graffiti walls around town.

Re: SOS
All my life I've understood SOS to mean "Save Our Ship", even though I'm guessing it could be used in any distressing situation. Thankfully I've never had to actually use this!

This is a word that made me smile when I read it. I've only heard it used in the Deep South. I've never heard it used anywhere else. Just saying.

Re: Camouflage
Ha! Here in the Deep South, cammo is almost a fashion statement. You see it year 'round! Of course, during hunting season it's almost mandatory to wear it, even if you're not a hunter. Interesting to see the different patterns available. Sure wore my share of camouflage during my Army days! Still mi...

Re: aitch
Having been born, raised and living in the South and Deep South (two different locations), pronouncing "ate" as "et" is pretty common and hardly raises an eyebrow. Had a friend tell me the other day he's looking forward to hunting season this year "cause I like to clim trees...

Re: Reck
This word reminds me of a conversation I had with my wife just yesterday. We were passing an old delapidated building and she commented it was a shame it had been allowed to get to that state. I stated, "Yes, they need to RAZE it." She looked at me like I was crazy and said, "No, they...

Re: Books that Should be Written
I was looking over the list and had to laugh. It took me back 100 years to my high school days when I was a 300 meter hurdler. Back then the joke was about an occupational hazard of hurdling, the details of which could be learned in a fictional "book" called The Ruptured Chinese Hurdler&qu...
