Re: Upstart
Just thought I'd point out that the verb use in Notes has a very different meaning from those given in Meaning. One doesn't usually think of a snake as a parvenu, does one?

Re: Discreet
Discretion the noun has other meanings that go beyond simple discreetness. If something lies within my discretion, it is my choice to do it or not.

Re: information
Wow, I just ran a search for words with 'form' in them and came up with only formication! And it's not even remotely related. No performative conforming to formulaic formulas, reformation of deformations, formation/formative, no nothin'!

Re: Got Your Number
I can't say why such things occur, but I can say that, as far as my experience with philately goes, it's not always the case. For stamps that are used internationally, yes, but things like Egyptian postage due stamps have only Egyptian numerals on them. No one else needs to know, so why bother?

Re: Inventory
I sometimes try to play with inventory to make it a manufacturing line of inventions - 'invention factory' = 'inventory'. Just put the accent on the 'e' and it kind of works.

Unless, of course, we are talking about the science of the con!Alas, a defendant who has scienter may nevertheless be lacking in conscience.
Having a conscience goes hand in hand with being moral, wouldn't you say?

Re: ANIMUS
After a some thought over the course of today, I've pretty much come to the conclusion that Meaning 2 has completely obliterated Meaning 1. It may be there when reading an older text, but all I feel is the animosity version when I think of it.

Aren't the Kings and Queens of Great Britain now basically figureheads of state? It's the PM who really holds the reins, correct?

Re: Scrimp
Seems to me that meaning 1 is only if used with something about saving, and even then it could still be taken as 2, Then again, I guess we could say something like, "He scrimped up enough to buy his texts for this term"? Without the 'up', though, it would feel like meaning 2 to me.

Especially given the shared root, I think I'd accept 'stentorian thunder' as a non-voice related usage. Anyone else?

I don't think I can see this word without thinking Stevie Wonder. That was a great song. Here's a youboob version, in case you want a listen.
