The COD gives the one I am used to:

I am aware that this word has been looked at in the past, but maybe some newcomers would be interested. It's such a lovely word. It came to my mind yesterday while watching a baby grey/gray seal being cosseted/cosetted by the gentle flipper of its bulky mum.
