I have just always used "can" when asking of I have the ability to do this. I use "may" when I am asking if it is ok to do this, or if I am allowed to do this.
Lots of time I have the ablilty, but maybe not the permission.

Touche my friend. I do not use the correct grammar unless I am writing for a reason. I murder the spoken language also. Even my penmanship has gone to pot. That's what happens when we get slack on our attention to grammar. But it didn't make my words diffficult for you to read. I think this is the i...

As a writer once said, "Let it all hang out." In writing for anything except professional documents, office work, ect. letting the grammar slide into the vernacular is premitted, even perferred. I am terrible about spelling, being right-brained, but I always use the spell checker or dictio...

Wow, they have claws

OK, u'all. I get it. You are so much more informed than I. I taught English and just know the correct usage. I don't use it when I am speaking, but when writing I try. I just offered my own opinion. You expressed yours. Now, I think I am in the wrong group. I don't like people with claws. They hurt....

Panic

When I think of the word, Panic, I think of the panic attacks that I am prone to. I don't worry about bird flu or any other pandemic, but I do have panic attacks in times of extreme stress. I don't worry about bird flu because I am a child of the King, and I know that my life is in His hands. ...

Honey chile, you can't help it. You are just in that cold northern state where people have to speak with their mouths closed to keep from freezing their tongues. You just go on pronouncing the way you do. I love to hear other dialects.

Singular noun/pronoun and verb

One of my pet peeves is using a singular noun/promoun with a plural verb. Someone needs his backside whacked. (Correct) Someone needs their backside whacked (incorrect) I see these mistakes in the most educated writing. Just stop and think if the noun/pronoun is singular or plural. Would you expoun...
