Re: Reprehend
I had a teacher in college that said that the word "that" is used more than it should be. To this day I find that the word "that" can be dropped in most cases where "that" is used. The underlined that can be substituted or dropped. Just saying.

Re: Cacodemon
Luke, it appears your computer, like mine occasionally, has cacodemons in it. "Bugs" just seems too nice a word to use when it comes to what happens to my computer sometimes. I mostly just use the word "demons", though.

Eternal youth? How many businesses have there been over the years -- past and present -- with this in mind? Amazing! The surest way to gain eternal youth? You have to die. Ironic.

I am familiar with suet, but here in the part of 'bama I'm in it's primarily used for bird feeding. Don't think I've ever seen it used in mincemeat. Just saying.

I'm more familiar with Spanish than I am Yiddish. A similar thing as "putz" happens in Spanish, though, where a word in one area means one thing and the same word in another area will get you in trouble. I never knew the word putz was offensive. Perhaps I need to be more careful when I use...

Re: Stereophonic
Good one, Perry L. I've made comment to my wife several times that holographic movies are going to be the next step in movie or television viewing. It's only a matter of a (short) period of time. Sort of like the scene in Star Wars when R2D2 plays Princess Leia's warning to Luke Skywalker. It's been...

Re: Redeem
I'm just old school, I guess. I prefer "shoo-" and "strait-". I also say "font of all knowledge" rather than "fount" mainly because the word font leads to the Spanish word "fuente", which means "source". That's just me.

Re: Stereophonic
A great leap forward from the monophonic recordings of my youth. One of my earliest memories of stereo was the day I went to the home of one of my more affluent friends, donning a set of headphones connected to a vast array of his then state of the art recording equipment and listening to a recordin...

Re: Sacerdotal
I was glad to see this word today. In Spanish, the word for priesthood is sacerdocio and one who holds a priesthood office is a sacerdote. Don't use the word much when I'm speaking English but do when speaking Spanish.

Re: Idioms * Adages
I got all but one on the first try. The one I missed I feel pretty sure I had right (or at least the right idea). I wrote "you scratch my back and i'll scratch yours" but kept getting the "Hint" command. After that, I put it in several different ways but couldn't get it exactly r...

One of the miriad reasons that English is one of the most difficult languages in the world to learn. I gave a written assessment to a person who kept spelling the word "tube" as "toob", among several other things he spelled phonetically. Interesting.

I'm definitely not a Luddite, although neither am I adept on all the latest technology. I use email and text a lot. I'm writing this post on a laptop. The cell phone I use allows me to make a phone call and text people and that's all. I don't have a SmartPhone (nor do I want/need one) because I have...

Re: Dudgeon
In Spanish there are even some words that change gender depending on whether they're singular or plural. The word "agua" (water) comes immediately to mind. The singular "el agua" (the water) uses the male "el", while the plural "las aguas" (the waters) uses th...
