What about Quincy, MA? For some reason, that c is pronounced as a z.

gailr: I have good friends from Beatrice, Nebraska. I think the pronunciation of the town name you attribute to them is pretty much the standard American pronunciation. I am aware it is not the Dictionary pronunciation. Nebraskans do say things foreign to a Southern red-neck's ears. Pajamas are pa-'jam-as to them as opposed to puh-'jah-mahs in Texas. The word Colorado is even worse. They say Ca-la-'ra-da instead of Co-lo-'rah-do. I cannot describe the pronunciation of the last syllable. The d is like a voiced t. Of course, Texans try to say it with a Spanish accent. Nebraskans speak with a mid-western accent.

I love regional accents.

Beatrice/Kearney/Cairo. ....been to all of the above.
Beatrice has the National Homestead Monument:
when the West was opened to homesteaders
with Lincoln's proclamation. Transmogrified the West.
