I have always used this word as I used to hear it from my Nana when I was a little girl. It had several meanings: size, measurement, closeness, and affection. Slightly different than what you posted for the true definition of this word.
It is funny when I think of it now, Johnny Cash, pot roast, knitting, Stampede Wrestling and being nigh to my Nana. Perfection!
