co·los·sus (k-lss)
n. pl. co·los·si (-ls) or co·los·sus·es
1. A huge statue.
2. Something likened to a huge statue, as in size or importance: a colossus of bureaucracy.

[Latin, from Greek kolossos.] from freedictionary.com
To you, O Sun, the people of Dorian Rhodes set up this bronze statue reaching to Olympus when they had pacified the waves of war and crowned their city with the spoils taken from the enemy. Not only over the seas but also on land did they kindle the lovely torch of freedom.

Which gives us Coliseum.
variant of L. colosseum, amphitheater of Vespasian at Rome, neut. of adj. colosseus "gigantic"
I wondered about the coliseum/colosseum spellings; this wiki link gives a clue.
