Pronunciation: p&-'lü-k&
Function: noun
Etymology: origin unknown
1 : an inexperienced or incompetent boxer

Ummm, nope; just not the same...

In the clearing a palooka, and a fighter by his trade
And he carries the reminders of every glove that laid him down or cut him
til he cried out in his anger and his shame
I am leaving, I am leaving, but the oafish lout remains
Yes he still remains

I believe that was the first draft...

ya'll do just fine, without me, I see.
I had to drive from Chicago to St. Louis with Bubba to help Grama with some house repairs. What a trip, but since Bubba's conversation is limited, I was thinking of some old songs with some of the place names I saw along the way.

Kankakee put me in mind of the City of New Orleans, by Arlo Guthrie.
All along the southbound odyssey the train pulls out of Kankakee
Rolls along past houses, farms & fields
Passin' graves that have no name, freight yards full of old black men
And the graveyards of rusted automobiles

Kokomo by the Beach Boys
Bodies in the sand
Tropical drink melting in your hand
We'll be falling in love
To the rhythm of a steel drum band
Down in Kokomo

And I saw Memphis was a future destination, down the road a piece. So I thought of Mellow Walking in Memphis by Bruce Springstein
Then I was walking in Memphis
I was walking with my feet ten feet off of Beale
Walking in Memphis
But do I really feel the way I feel?

"But do I really feel the way I feel?" is one of the most profound thoughts I've come across in a while, sorry I'm rambling here, 8 hours of introspection will do that. I remember a friend asking me, "What's really going on here?"
In other words why did I have such a strong reaction to something seemingly minor.

Sounds as though you, like Ray Davies, are in a state of confusion. A little sleep should set you right as rain.

So I thought of Mellow Walking in Memphis by Bruce Springstein
To the best of my knowledge, by Marc Cohen. Which ads some context to the line, "And she said; "Tell me are you a Christian child?" and I said; "Ma'm, I am tonight.".

City of New Orleans is very high on my favorite songs of all times.
"Time is nature's way of keeping everything from happening all at once. Lately it hasn't been working."

Perry,
And she said; "Tell me are you a Christian child?" and I said; "Ma'm, I am tonight.".
thank you for that I was wondering where I'd heard that line before, it wasn't in the Bruce S. version, but I thought I might just be going crazy.

sleep hasn't helped; I'm still suffering car-lag, the time zone changed going both ways then Daylight saving kicked in and I'm still an hour off. I get sleepy an hour earlier and get up an hour later and it's just crazy-making, a short trip for me.
