Douce

Postby skinem » Wed Nov 15, 2006 2:28 pm

Saw this on an OLD cigarette sign in Durham today...didn't know what it meant. The sign said "More Douce".

douce

Pronunciation: 'düs
Function: adjective
Etymology: Middle English, sweet, pleasant, from Anglo-French, from feminine of duz, douz, from Latin dulcis sweet -- more at DULCET
chiefly Scottish : SOBER, SEDATE <the douce faces of the mourners -- L. J. A. Bell>
- douce·ly adverb, chiefly Scottish
