Eschew

Postby sluggo » Wed Nov 22, 2006 1:20 am

Eschew

func: transitive verb
Etymology: Middle English, from Anglo-French eschiver (3d present eschiu) of Germanic origin; akin to Old High German sciuhen to frighten off -- more at SHY
: to avoid habitually especially on moral or practical grounds : SHUN
(thanx be to Merriam-Webster)

Popularised in the pop bumperstickerial phrase "Eschew Obfuscation" :D

When a conversational partner/adversary drops "eschew" into a conversation, a courteous response is of course "Gesundheit".

Then you wait for the oth' eschew to drop.

As I keep Kosher, I must sometimes eschew what others will chew.
