Whisky

Postby sluggo » Fri Dec 29, 2006 7:01 pm

For those who so imbibe, or not, another in this seasoned stew of the seasonal slew:

Whisky/Whiskey -a liquor made from fermented mash of grain
-- shortened form of whiskybae, from Scottish Gaelic uisge beatha ("USH-kyuh BEH-huh", water of life).

So there's your excuse if ye need one: whisky = water.

May be interesting to some, and maybe not...

Jack Daniel's distillery is in the neighboring county about 15 miles from here. It's a dry county. They cannot sell it in the county, even the tours are dry.
Now my county is wet--it can be sold here. Several years ago they had a referendum here to change the local laws so Jack Daniels could begin making it here...it failed. So, they can make it but not sell it in Moore County, and they can sell it but not make it here in Lincoln County. Makes sense to me... :?

I had a tight friend [in more ways than one] who used to drink a fifth of black Jack a day. He had congenital Arteriosclerocis and didn't live to be very old. Moral? I don't have one.

Sounds like poetic injustice.

Perhaps I should have phrased it more precisely...it cannot be made legally in Lincoln County...
Not that I'd know anything about it.
