Aha, so that's what they're doing in those forensic crime shows, looking for the delitescent clues!

delitesence

Nice find! A little (very little) digging disclosed "delitesence," a medical term meaning the sudden disappearance of the signs or symptoms of a disease implying, I guess, that the disease is merely latent. How lulling and sinister. Maybe someone with medical training can educate us. Application to the BP Gulf Oil Spill calamity is evident. Gone, dispersed, right?

Gone, dispersed might be what they're all hoping we'll buy, but I fear the actuality is that the harm caused by this spill will lie delitescent for many years.

Good point, Luke, on the out of sight out of mind bit, too. Once it's off the front pages, it's, shall we say, mentally delitescent.

An old suggestion, but I think it is worthy of being renewed. Any delitescent takers out there? Or are you all thinking of air fresheners and de-lite-scent?

Some knockout drugs are said to be delitescent. It is stock in trade for TV detective programs. In the real world it is problematic.
