Ghillie

Postby Slava » Sun Aug 08, 2010 6:57 pm

A professional fishing and hunting guide.

From which we get ghillies, a form of brogue shoes.
Ghillie Brogues', are a type of shoe with laces along the instep and no tongue. Although now primarily worn for social events, Ghillies originated as a shoe that would drain water and dry quickly due to the lack of a tongue, and not get stuck in the mud because the laces were above the ankle.
Ghillie Brogues From Wikipedia.

Perhaps to a costume party? Or they might be good while gigging frogs.

They sure wouldn't keep your feet dry!

They're used for Highland and Irish Step dance.

Back when MTV ran the stop-action series Celebrity Deathmatch, a spoof on professional wrestling, there was one episode of Bill Gates vs. Michael Flatley. I can't find that particular episode, but those who want to re-live the mayhem of clay-on-clay and revel in those glorious days of gore should check out this MTV site. Beavis vs. Butthead, Bill Maher vs. Conan O'Brien, and Hillary Clinton vs. Monica Lewinsky, and many more.

Oh, the humanity!
