Doppelganger

Doppelganger
This term come from the German expression meaning "double walker," the human , or the astral body. The doppelganger may be projected in an out of body experience (OBE), or appear as another person in an apparition. A.G.H.

Its occult meaning notwithstanding, People often use doppleganger for an amazingly similar double. I hear Saddam Hussain had several.

This is the first time I've seen somebody mention an otherworldly aspect of what in Swedish is a dubbelgångare, 'a double, a look-alike'.

It's not occult in German either: de.wikipedia finds it so commmonplace that there are just a few sentences on the word, starting with
Ein Doppelgänger (oder auch Double) ist eine Person, die einer anderen Person ähnlich sieht. Politiker und Stars verwenden Doppelgänger aus Sicherheits- und Zeitgründen.
No supplementing or alternative definition is given.
Irren ist männlich

In Dutch Doppelgänger as such is often used in literary analysis and literary criticism, e.g. het Doppelgänger-motief, while for doubles of Saddam, we'd use Dutch dubbelganger (which is a calque in itself of the German word, apparantly coined by Johann Paul Friedrich Richter in 1796).
