Farblondzhet

As soon as I saw this one I couldn't resist:

Totally lost; or hopelessly mixed up, bewildered, confused; dysfunctional.

As you might guess, it's Yiddish. Here's a link to a dictionary page on it.

It was even actually used in a headline in June: Our Farblondzhet Senators. It includes this line: "Although there is no exact translation of farblondzhet, it falls within the definition of lost and confused, wandering aimlessly with no hope in sight." Good word for Congress these days.

NB: the site is not my politics, simply one that came up in a search for the word.

The German cognate to farblondzhet is "fahren mit Blindheit". This translates roughly in English to "travel blindly". No blondes are involved unless one wants them to be.
