Luddite

Postby Slava » Fri Sep 20, 2013 10:00 pm

I admit I am a type of Luddite. Not the kind that goes around destroying machinery, but the type that doesn't take well to many modern intrusions of technology. For example, I do not and do not wish ever to have a cell phone of any type.

My hope is that our Good Doctor could give us an excursus on the difference between the contemporary usage of Luddite and a long ago previously treated word, mumpsimus.

How can we use these properly and to good effect?
Life is like playing chess with chessmen who each have thoughts and feelings and motives of their own.

I think every thoughtful person has a little bit of Luddite spirit in her/him. Change is inevitable, but the rate of change is so great now that it is hard for anyone to keep pace.
