dilettante

Postby William Hupy » Tue Dec 03, 2013 3:29 pm

Interesting how this word took on its pejorative sense in the late 18th century. Because I am an occasional participant with Dr Goodword am I a word dilettante?

...am I a word dilettante?
To avoid the pejorative sense of dilettante, I'd say the vast majority of Agorans are dabblers in language and linguistics.

I can see how the change came about, though. Professionals wouldn't necessarily approve of people getting credit for "liking" art. They need to make it.
Life is like playing chess with chessmen who each have thoughts and feelings and motives of their own.
