An answer to a question, typically a sharp or witty one. Also, an answer in law of a defendant to questions asked.

So, it means a comeback almost? Or is it an answer with a bit of sarcasm? "Duh!"

Perry used it back a time ago. I have never heard it before.

I used to play tennis, a game of rejoinders. You hit to me, I hit back to you. The word is common to me and mostly neutral. I do agree to a frequent connotation of a riposte, and sometimes anger, but not necessarily.
