Ran across this word today in Delancey Place, referring to Gen. George Patton:

mar·plot (märplt)

NOUN:
An officious meddler whose interference compromises the success of an undertaking.
ETYMOLOGY:

First I remember hearing it. This is from AHD. The pronunciation seems to omit the last vowel, or did I misread it?

For some reason, some encoding from other sites gets deleted when posting it to the Agora. Between the l and the t there should be an ŏ.
