This syllabic noun would seem to be of Japanese origin, but, in fact, is from Greek. Very limited used as it deals with a certain type of down slope wind.

Let's not forget the opposite, anabatic.

Perhaps only way back when, but I seem to recall that these were also originally used for military maneuvers; going up and down hills to attack or retreat.
