requite

Postby William Hupy » Thu Nov 06, 2014 6:39 pm

This means to pay back. Interesting that unrequited love is love that is not returned and that the root "quit" means to clear a debt. I suppose this is where we gained "quitclaim deed", although most people refer to such beasts as "quickclaim deed". Do not make this error.

Could there be an unrequited slight then? I know lots of them. Fortunately many are debts of this kind owed me.

I believe you are correct. I've never seen it used as payback, but it is a valid usage.
