I first encountered abditories in a Nero Wolfe novel in which a young woman led Archie to explore the abditories in the office, looking for some clue or other. Forget which one, but I'm still amazed that Rex Stout could write books that read like he wrote them yesterday.

Of course, an oubliette is a place you put things you wish to forget about, whereas an abditory is a hiding place. An important difference, no?

Slava, both are places a person can be. Both are secretive. One is for hiding the other is for imprisoning. My brain went to oubliette when I saw abditory both are for being out of mind
