fetch
Fetch has been traced to Proto German with the same and more meanings. But wait, there's more: it may be connected to the PIE root "ped". For those of you who diligently studied your Latin in high school instead of idling away your time at the malt shop, this is FOOT. Get it, when you fetch something you have to (at least at that time) get it by walking. What is interesting is how this is related to fetching, which is usually used to describe a woman. This next goes to the heart of male prejudice because fetching originally meant crafty, scheming. But you can see how this extended to those "crafty, scheming women" who manage to make themselves alluring to men, who, of course, had to walk to the person who charmed them.

Re: fetch
Then there is the waterway usage. That's the distance a wind is able to travel across water to build waves.
