I happened on this word today, and I was struck with how strange it was that someone might be moving toward "awk". I looked it up and thought it might be a good candidate for a Goodword. Awk came from old norse: wrong, turned backwards, contrary.

I didn't know the Norse bit; I wonder if that is why the Unix file processing command / language awk is so named. In fact I think that that was an acronym from the authours or something, but IIRC it could be fairly troublesome as a command.

Having been sort of a unix guy (in a previous life), and knowing some of the people that were deep into unix, I find it easy to believe that someone knew the norse word...
