Manqué
I just ran across this word and have decided generously to share it with all of you. The origin is PIE "man-ko" meaning maimed in the hand. Its current iteration refers to a person who has failed to live up to expectations.

Without the accent, it's the numbers 1-18 in roulette, and no, this isn't the fancy French way of spelling manky.
I wonder if you could call someone a human manqué. I can think of a few examples. I guess I'll stick with calling them manky, though. At least they are related, via the sense of lacking.
