interesting how the state of being forgotten such as when you are thrown into an oubliette, has as its origin "slime". But this is not so far fetched as when you are forgotten you are smoothed over and thus like slime. Ta da!

Well, in the sense of being effaced and having your history smoothed over, yes. As "slime", perhaps not so much. I like the idea, though.
