vestige

Postby gwray » Fri Feb 20, 2015 11:52 am

I find this word, which implies a trace that lingers on after something is gone, quite evocative. "The box of perfumed love letters brought a wistful smile and a vestige of joy to the aged widower." I also associate this word with a favourite poem http://www.all-creatures.org/poetry/vestigia.html

Of course, the connotation need not be so pleasant. "Ally Monie left her third husband Ty Kuhn with only a vestige of his former wealth".
A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in settings of silver Proverbs 25:11

Taken up and treated here.
Life is like playing chess with chessmen who each have thoughts and feelings and motives of their own.
