conscientious

It occurs to me that the Latin bases of this word, com (with) and scire (to know) also appear in the Spanish infinitive "conocer", to know. Maybe. Maybe not. Any help with this? Anyone?

As both Spanish and Italian are at times called modern Latin, I would expect the roots to tie in together somewhere. Not necessarily directly, but somehow.
