obtuse
I was not aware that there is verb versions of this word: obtund. Both from the Latin "obtundere" to beat, make dull, from "ob" against and "tundere" to beat. Rounding out this submission with the PIE root (s)tude, to beat, strike, push, etc. In Sanskrit we find "tudati" he thrusts. Its sense of "stupid" first appeared around 1500.
