Heirloom
I just ate one of my neighbors heirloom tomatoes. So sweet, juicy and delicious. Why is it referred to as an heirloom and what is the origin of the word?

Re: Heirloom
Also known down under as heritage tomatoes / breeds, so I understand. I guess it is that they are passed down. To my understanding an heirloom breed is no longer grown as a commercial crop (these generally being selected on a different basis than crops grown on a small area) but by enthusiasts or a particular group.
Could make a good word IMO.

Re: Heirloom
Aye, this could be a good Good Word. We haven't even done heir yet, so taking on the loom part would be icing on the cake.
