I think it was referring to the season when migratory geese virtually live all over your lawn if you have a puddle close also the amount of the down on the goose breast is much thicker in the fall before a hard winter. I wish the weather guessers would get out their rulers instead of what ever augury they read. Mice, even dogs grow a thicker undercoat in years when the winter will be extremely harsh.
