SUBSCRIBING TO THIS FORUM

Postby Dr. Goodword » Thu Dec 20, 2007 12:25 am

We receive about 100 attempts a day by spammers to subscribe to the Alpha Agora in order to get links back to their website or pander porno on our site. This has forced us to hold all new subscriptions until we have examined them closely. We delete all attempts to subscribe from China, Russia, Ukrains, Belorussia and Poland. We check the usernames against usernames at other forums to see if they are active and look up the e-mail host being used. We check any websites in the subscription that do not look suspicious (those that do are dumped automatically).

Doing this 100 times a day is rather demanding and diverts us from things we prefer doing, so we often just delete all without checking.

If you seriously wish to subscribe and participate in this forum, please send an email directly to us through our contact page to to contact *at* lexiteria [dot] com, using the usual format, not what you see here. (We have to write addresses like this to prevent spammers from copying our addresses from the website.)

There are free software websites where you can exclude certain countries from even accessing this site. that are the most notorious. The ones mentione were Liberia, Nigeria, etc, no doubt China and many Ababic -speaking countries are bad in that way also.

mB.

I wish I knew the url's of this free software but
I forgot that too.

Today is the first day of the rest of your life, Make the most of it...

I use Anti-Spam ACP Created By: EXreaction for my PHP bulletin board. It puts all new registrations on an inactive list until I check them out. Also I added location and interests as fields that must be filled out (it helps against registration attempts by "bots").

Before this I was flooded with porn purveyors, but now my site has stayed pretty damn safe.
