Word development

Postby Perry Lassiter » Thu Jan 01, 2015 4:28 pm

I know most of you guys don't dig this jive, and I use it very sparingly. Still, it's interesting to watch as a petri dish of word evolution and devolution in short spaces of time. reminds me of CB craze and that radio jargon, e.g. "Be" used for all tenses, similar to Ebonics.

Then again, as the author states, the word isn't a word, it's a symbol. So why is it being considered a word, I ask? It may be the most commonly used thing, but that doesn't make it a word.
Life is like playing chess with chessmen who each have thoughts and feelings and motives of their own.

Shakespeare, Henry IV, Part I, Act 5, Scene 1
Falstaff, in his examination of "honour" provides a useful definition of a word:
". . . What is
honour? a word. What is in that word honour? what
is that honour? air. A trim reckoning!"

I submit that the "heart" imogi lacks the critical element of an oral/aural presentation.
