Guess so. Also too would "esuriently peckish".So I guess esculent comestibles would be a repetitive redundancy.
Not that anyone's ever said that (or ever will again), but that's the beauty of having 50,000 words in one's arsenal: originals galore.

Aye, and without quite touching the subtlety of describing a woman as "easy on the eyes".I suppose to label a dinner esculent would be to damn it with faint praise (with only the chosen few understanding that one didn't mean to say excellent).
A godzillion years ago on Candid Camera Allen Funt did a bit where a restaurant advertised an "exiguous steak" on their menu, just to watch customers' reactions when served.
...not that I'd remember that personally, I uh, read it somewhere maybe...
