Guess so. Also too would "esuriently peckish".

I suppose to label a dinner esculent would be to damn it with faint praise (with only the chosen few understanding that one didn't mean to say excellent).

Aye, and without quite touching the subtlety of describing a woman as "easy on the eyes".

A godzillion years ago on Candid Camera Allen Funt did a bit where a restaurant advertised an "exiguous steak" on their menu, just to watch customers' reactions when served.

...not that I'd remember that personally, I uh, read it somewhere maybe...
