Psithurism

Postby Grogie » Tue Oct 14, 2008 2:32 pm

The sound of wind rustling the leaves on a tree. ''While walking along the forest trail, I heard several psithurisms.''

susurrus which means a soft murmuring or rustling sound.
From BBC's 50 words list (Thanks to Slava for the topic)

I think this word is better to use to describe the sound of rustling leaves, since it's not as heavy as "psithurism" to pronounce.

Aye, too bad it's supposedly about the wind in the leaves.

Now, if we were talking about the psithurisms of that python stalking you through the forest, it seems to work better.
