The noisome stench billowing out from the fire made the onlookers aware that something inimical to their pulmonary health was burning.

I suppose we could say that the Republican attitude toward the Obama administration is a tad inimical, too.

It can go either way, depending on which party is in power.
But politics should be kept out of the site.
