Torrid

Postby Slava » Tue Feb 16, 2010 9:08 pm

Now that Valentine's Day is over and done with, let's turn up the heat:

1. Parched with the heat of the sun; intensely hot.
2. Scorching; burning: the torrid noonday sun.
3. Passionate; ardent: a torrid love scene.
4. Hurried; rapid: set a torrid pace; torrid economic growth.

Summer's on the way, at least here in Upstate NY. (Did we even have a Winter?) Will we have a torrid season?

Let's hope that 4th definition comes in handy, too, and soon. A lot of us need a job.

As for #3, that's so last week.

Before we knew enough about how the world works to call them the tropics, Earth's hot, equatorial regions were called the torrid zone (often pluralized as the torrid zones.)
