1. To pour off (wine, for example) without disturbing the sediment.
2. To pour (a liquid) from one container into another.

I've been long acquainted with the noun "decanter," but never thought much about the verb. The idea of pouring off without glugging is new to me. It doth seem to refer to an earlier, more genteel, era.
