Bloop
I see this all the time in regard to baseball. In fact, I never see it apart from baseball-related articles. It sounds vaguely onomatopoeic (sp?) but the only sound I could connect it to would be a splash...

According to Wikipedia,
BTW while trying to find a more coherent explanation than anything I could concoct, I found this odd link: http://kindofbloop.com. Blasphemy, if you're a Miles Davis fan like me!A blooper or bloop is a weakly hit fly ball that drops in for a single between an infielder and an outfielder. Also known as a bloop single, a dying quail, or a duck snort.

Yeah, that it is. *sigh* It's blasphemy and heresy and sacrilege and... and I might have to check it out!
I have some pretty good quality MIDI files I found somewhere online about ten years ago. Most are cheesy renditions of pop tunes (Britney Spears and the like), but some sound for all the world like somehow-digitized pop-jazz recordings (George Benson's "This Masquerade," David Benoit's "Freedom at Midnight," etc.) These "chiptunes" on kindofbloop.com sound like they put some thought into them...
