Prunus spinosa

Postby wsodonnell2 » Wed Nov 02, 2011 10:53 am

A bit off-topic, but I couldn't help wondering how the famous philosopher got involved here. Was the first one to describe this plant (Linneus?) a big fan of Spinosa? Or does Spinosa just mean something else here? (Spiney?)

Isn't is spinoZa? Could be related to spine as a characteristic of part of the plant.

I Googled this and looked a a couple of sites, all of which called it Blackthorn. I began to wonder, with perhaps75% certainty whether the spinosa, or spines, refers to the thorns.
