Elfin Too!

Postby wsodonnell2 » Wed Dec 28, 2011 4:02 pm

I've always liked elfin, which has a rather more expansive set of meanings.

From Merriam-Webster at:
http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/elfin:

having an otherworldly or magical quality or charm

Synonyms: alluring, appealing, attractive, bewitching, captivating, charismatic, charming, fascinating, enchanting, engaging, entrancing, fetching, glamorous (also glamourous), luring, magnetic, seductive

Seeing this word always reminds me of a certain long-lost lady friend. The frisson lives on.

Happy New Year,

So, can we complete the alphabet in synonyms? All we have so far is: A, B, C, E, F, G, L, M, and S.

I'll add, if you agree, a W: winsome.

"lithesome", but that is already an "L", taken. Good thoughts
I will give it some more.

D - darling (an expression I hate as in "wasn't that darling?) in a high pitched voice.

The last three letters of the alphabet are obviously going to be the trickiest, but it's worth a shot...
(It looks like the guys at Merriam's need to bush up their alphabetizing skills.)

Well, I put youthful, above, but the next one
"juvenescent" is the same and much more poetic.

And "Z", could be "zany" but that really does not fit.

Well, this is building up nicely. Much to my surprise, to tell the truth.

However, I must question xenophilic, yeasty, and the to me completely cryptic Zelda-esque.

At least I know what the first two mean, even if I don't agree that they have anything to do with elfin. The Zelda reference leaves me at a total loss.

I would like to know the criteria for acceptance into the list.
I made a number of suggestions, none accepted.
Is this list serving some purpose or just the
initial posters' collection of words? Without an answer
of some sort I am no longer interested.....Zeldaesque
as opposed to zany or zesty. What is Zeldaesque???
And how does it and xenophilic refer to Elfin, please??
