My daughter sent me a book for Mother's day, It's called Goat Song, it is
described as: A seasonal life, a short History of herding, And the art of
making cheese. Since I haven't had any goats for several decades I couldn't
see why she'd sent me the book and was ready to just give it away. But I
took a sample reading of it and changed my mind,. This is a terrific little
book and all it is reputed to be, it really gives one an overview of goats,
teaches us the words associated with herding and a great deal more And it
teaches one how to make cheese, all in a gentle poetic venue that speaks
lovingly about the land, herding and goats. It's by Brad Kessler. Now I
wish I had goats again. REALLY WISH IT.
I haven't been here in a while, been busy, I even forgot my password and my isp changed hands so forget getting it emailed to me. Anyway I just got this book that some might enjoy, here is a paragraph from it: from the chapter on haying.
"The Nomadic dream is to follow an ever-unfolding bloom. To walk or ride alongside hoofed animals and lead them to provender. The enduring Myth of the cowboy is just the latest incarnation of the nomad leading his animals to pasture, providing food, and protecting his herds against the wild. The Indo-European root word "pa"["to feed, protect"] holds within it's kernal the germ of that dream, and all the words that sprout from it--food, fodder, feed, foster, pasture, repast, pasta, pabulum, pantry, company, companion--tell the same story; of provision and protection. Companionship with animals and other humans. " Goat Song by Brad Kessler
There is also a lot about making cheese and caring for goats, but the whole book is woven lovingly with a joy for the pastoral and of words.

The return of Bailey would be wondrous indeed, but I sincerely doubt that this is the same Bailey of earlier fame. For one, the original was a He, this one's a mother. I expect this is actually spam for the book.
Life is like playing chess with chessmen who each have thoughts and feelings and motives of their own.

Surely a spammer would not have a Bible verse as her signature. This is shown as her first post. bailey36, please post again to this thread and tell us if you are a new member of Alpha Agora. What you wrote didn't sould like spam to me and I would like to get your comments. I invite you to send comments to other threads too, if you wish. I want to know someone with so interesting a signature quotation from the /bible.
Speaking of goats, I sometimes call Alpha Agora, Alpha Angora. Thus, the First Group beomes the First Goat. Remember I love malapropisms and puns.

It is dark at night, but the Sun will come up and then we can see.
ah, I see your confusion since I was both mother and father to my daughter she sends me gifts for both occasions.
and I would get no royalties or recognition if you bought/read the book, so it's not spam.
