Perry: Do you know about the Baptist pastor who lost the election as president of the Texas Baptists? It happened in Waco, just before the tornado, and the pastor welcomed the tornado as God's judgment on Waco for treating him so shabbily. Well, I knew that pastor and he had his good days. But that wasn’t one of them. Didn’t some TV preacher pronounce judgment on New Orleans and call on God to send that hurricane?

If so, God had bad aim. The traditionally sinful part of the city, the French Quarter you now see on TV, is on higher ground and was relatively unscathed. Meanwhile, the largely poverty stricken Lower Ninth Ward was demolished.

Decidedly NOT God's doing. The worst damage came from human error which might well have been sin, namely the levee failure.
