defenestrate

Postby gwray » Fri Feb 22, 2013 10:07 am

most impressive use of the word is in "A Nauseous Nocturne" from Calvin & Hobbes http://bradshawfamily.net/~samuel/comic ... /poems.php

gwray:

Welcome and post often.

You should have posted this under the Good Word defenestrate instead of starting a thread for it. Usually the Good Doctor is the only one who should initiate a Good Word and he just recently initiated this one. Your Calvin and Hobbes reference is interesting. I suggest you repost it under the Good Word defenestrate. I do not know how this thread can be deleted but it should be to avoid duplication. If you have a new word to suggest, post it under Good Word Suggestions. That is were members initiate Good Word threads. Defenestrate has already been featured there also.

I know you are new to Alpha Agora. This note is friendly information.

And thanks for the reminder of that great comic strip that I keep hoping will un-defenstrate!

Quite coincidentally, Michael Quinion on his site World Wide Words, had a nice piece on this word recently. If anyone cares to see it, here it is.
Life is like playing chess with chessmen who each have thoughts and feelings and motives of their own.

I liked the part about the intercession of the Virgin Mary
vs. landing in the manure pile. The root of
religious divisions never ceases to amaze me.

Would a Unitarian credit Mary with maneuvering them into the manure pile?
Thanks for the ref to Quinlon. I bookmarked his site.

I have ancestors from that area; I shall have to ask mom what they said while falling...
