A entertained format populate in the UAS and Canada the consisted of a variety of acts including singers, magicians, play scenes, musicians, etc. it was populate from the 1880's to the 1930's. The words source has many sources and is thought to be a corruption of the French voix de ville, translates to the voice of the city.

Vaudeville per se may be dead, but wouldn't something like Saturday Night Live be a modern version?
