dismal

Postby bbeeton » Fri Aug 25, 2023 10:52 am

Because today is dismal, having just stopped raining, and threatening to start raining again. Apparently from Latin dies mali, "evil days", its meaning expanded to describe environment, hence the Dismal Swamp.

In sound and meaning it blends well with "drizzle", so "drzzmal" is really a more suitable description of today's weather, although its optimum spelling isn't obvious.

I haven't found out just why yet, but bad days also used to be called Egyptian Days. Tyco Brahe Days I understand, but why pick on Egypt?
Life is like playing chess with chessmen who each have thoughts and feelings and motives of their own.
