Fault implies failure. When did "default" become positive?
Question raised at the Font/Interface conference now happening at Stanford, on the subject of fonts for non-Latin-script languages.

Re: default
Never thought of this before, or even noticed it, truth be told. Defaulting on a loan and a computer default do seem quite far apart.
My feeling is that the recent computer usage, stemming from the human idea of a default reaction, comes from the idea of not providing any outside input. With no thought or commands to obey, we and computers fall back on basic programming. That's me, though, so feel free to pile on everyone.

Life is like playing chess with chessmen who each have thoughts and feelings and motives of their own.
