Catechism
The definition appears limited to the oral instruction of religious doctrine by the use of questions and answers. However, I recently read an article wherein this was used in a secular sense. We grabbed it from Latin, it appears, which took it from Greek.

Re: Catechism
Kata plus echo, echoing down. Teacher says such-and-such from on high, students down below spit it back out. A form of indoctrination? In the more literal sense of putting the doctrine into someone.
