I read my bank's plans to charge the unwary checkwriter a whopping $28.00 A DAY(!) in overdraught fees. I think that's inordinate to the point of usury.

Another excellent word. One would think that it had something to do with being out of order. In a way, it does, if we're thinking of wrongdoing. Yet we cannot say that the elevator is inordinate.
